While the 256GB version we are testing today is capable of 1700MB/s read and 1300MB/s write, the 512GB version drops its write performance down just a bit to 1000MB/s.
The Transcend 820 is available in 256GB and 512GB capacities, utilizes the NVMe PCIe 3.0 x 2 host controller interface, and has different performance specifications depending on capacity. Such is the case with the newest Transcend CFexpress 820 Type B Memory Card released recently, with data transfer speeds of 1700MB/s read and up to 1300MB/s write. Today’s typical CFexpress Type B card has a read speed more than 5x of that at 1700MB/s. Before the newest Type B version, most enthusiasts had never even imagined transfer cards faster than that of a SD card that could reach 300MB/s, a speed many thought was right up there.
CF Express Type B cards have had the fortune of enhanced visibility as of late, their performance becoming the sweet spot for many new digital and video cameras that can take advantage of their data transfer speeds.
